Hollyoaks confirms unexpected and sad outcome of Ethan and Sienna wedding
The long-awaited union of Ethan Williams (Matthew James Bailey) and Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) arrives in Hollyoaks next week as the popular couple prepare to tie the knot.
The wedding in question is one years in the making, with fans having spent months hoping that the pair – who separated last year – would get back together again.
Ethan, as viewers know, fell for Sienna and vice versa a little under two years ago after the former rescued the latter from the jaws of death. They swiftly became one of the Channel 4 soap’s most loved couples, winning a legion of fans along the way.
But the introduction of Rafe Harcourt (Chris Gordon) ultimately led to Ethan and Sienna going their separate ways – that is, until Hollyoaks’ time-jump reignited that spark.
Wedding bells are now ringing, with Ethan and Sienna and engaged and looking forward to the prospect of a happy life together.
The big day arrives next week and unfortunately it’s not without an obstacle or two, with Vicky Grant (Anya Lawrence) still convinced that her and Ethan are meant to be.
Ethan wakes up on the morning of the ceremony at the allotment, with Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson) taking it upon herself to whip him into shape ahead of what is supposed to be the happiest day of his life.
Vicky, however, confronts him once again, claiming that their history is proof that he shouldn’t be getting hitched to Sienna. As viewers know, the pair had a very brief relationship in a story that wasn’t well-received by fans.
Making one final bid for his affection, Vicky pleads with Ethan to give them another shot.
But Ethan is not interested and thus he makes his way to the venue to wed the love of his life. Sienna, meanwhile, practises her vows and later asks Jeremy (Jeremy Sheffield) to walk her down the aisle.
Jeremy, aka the retconned father of the bride.
The wedding gets underway with a number of their loved ones in attendance, including Liberty Savage (Jessamy Stoddart) and Dilly Harcourt (Emma Johnsey-Smith), and Ethan is bowled over with emotion, making moving vows as he breaks down, declaring his love for Sienna.
Emotions run high during the service, which ends with joy aplenty as the happy couple exit the venue and throw the bouquet, made by Jez, which is caught by John Paul McQueen (James Sutton).
But as Ethan and Sienna bask in their romance, is a happy ending actually on the cards for one of Hollyoaks’ finest pairings? Oh, if only. Vicky, again, shows up at the celebrations – and it’s not long before she and Sienna properly clash.
Subsequent scenes see Sienna acting extremely odd while Maxine finds a Christmas video of Ethan filming Sienna while she’s crafting – and in a flashback we’re taken back in time to see part of the missing year in question unfold.
The flashback ultimately revels a lot about Ethan and Sienna’s relationship. The question is: just what is revealed? And will it trigger Ethan’s exit?
Metro confirmed in June that, despite his overwhelming popularity, Ethan will be written out of the show, with star Matthew James Bailey set to exit. As to how exactly this transpires, you’ll have to tune in and find out.
The subsequent episode sees Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) and Abe Fielding (Tyler Conti) return from their mini-break to learn of the fallout from the wedding. Vicky, meanwhile, begs for protection – but is it just Sienna she needs protecting from?
