Hollyoaks icon breaks silence as she shares upcoming Hollyoaks plot twist that will spark a huge controversy
Actress Sherrie Hewson has opened up about the “very confusing” times ahead in Hollyoaks, as she delves into the soap’s latest plot twists. Channel 4’s series Hollyoaks has taken viewers on a wild ride with a bold time jump, leaving fans reeling from the departure of numerous characters. The daring narrative leap came as a creative fix to budgetary constraints that led to a reduction in both episodes and cast size.
With the show’s producers opting to fast-forward the storyline, a staggering 20 characters roughly a third of the ensemble were written out. This shake-up also saw the weekly episode count drop from five to three.
In a frank discussion on Johnny Seifert’s Secure The Insecure Podcast, Sherrie shed light on her character’s future amidst the chaos. Johnny remarked: “Well it’s a really weird year for Hollyoaks and I actually thought you had left the show because you’re not in the titles at the moment.
“And obviously we’ve had the time jump now. So what’s gone on with you and that because we haven’t seen you in, I don’t know what we call, what do we call it 2025 or do we just say one year on but we… There’s a year that just didn’t exist, the COVID year,” reports the Mirror.
Sherrie, who portrays Martha Blake, responded with candour: “Yes, I don’t know. But I am in the next titles because I’ve now gone back. I was not there in August, this August gone, because they were going on with the time jump.
“So the next titles, I’m in that. So now I’m back. Having done the time jump, I’m not sure if I could tell you I would, but I don’t know really.”
Speaking about her character’s latest developments, Sherrie explained: “I’ve been in a home, I think. I’m out of the home now. I’m back with Sienna now. I’m living with Sienna now, but she’s thrown Jeremy out. But now I think we’re all back. It’s very confusing. I just go and I go, what’s the next scene?”
In recent news, actor Matthew James-Bailey has shared his sentiments over leaving the show, in which he portrayed the role of Ethan Williams. Despite successfully bypassing the significant time jump cast cut, Matthew’s character met a murky end this Monday following his wedding to Sienna Blake, brought to life on screen by Anna Passey.
Reflecting on his exit from the series, Matthew told Digital Spy: “It’s really bittersweet. It’s come to an end a lot sooner than I would have liked.
“In previous interviews, I’ve said that I’d happily stay at Hollyoaks forever. It wasn’t my choice to leave, but that’s just the way that the game works, unfortunately! It’s hard to say goodbye to the fans and all of the people there that I love. But you have to look at it as new beginnings, take the bull by the reins, get back on and do it.”
