Sam Sam, I noted that he said he’s a virgin at love. He asked, “How do you feel about that?” Would that line work on you?

No, not really. It wasn’t my favorite. But I understand; he’s introducing himself and admitting he’s never been in love before.

What are your thoughts on people who come on the show without relationship experience?

I don’t have an issue with it. He mentioned being a relationship virgin later in the episode. I mean, I came on the show without having a long-term relationship either.

Oh, you’ve never had a relationship?

No, nothing serious. Just smaller relationships, but nothing long-term. I think it’s fine. The point of the show is to potentially fall in love and get married. Not having a long-term relationship doesn’t mean that’s not what you’re looking for.

Exactly! Jen made a comment that summed it up nicely: “I’m here looking for love, and he’s here looking for love, and that’s all I care about.” Their dating past doesn’t really matter.

That said, knowing what you want and having experienced relationships—both good and bad—can help you learn about yourself in a relationship. If you think back to your first relationship, there are definitely things you’d do differently now.

For sure! Your first relationship can absolutely be your last. Many people marry their high school sweethearts.

True, but statistically, if you’re the lead, it might be better to choose someone with relationship experience. Odds are, that relationship has a better chance of lasting.

I’d be curious to see those stats, though. Plus, with about 50% of people getting divorced now, your odds are still pretty bad no matter what. You just have to pick someone you love.

That’s a good point. I think Sam will do well on the show.

Really?

Yeah, I do. I like that he’s coming across as vulnerable. He got the last rose, but I don’t think that matters much in the first episode. There are just so many people.

Do you think he’ll stick around?

I’m not sure. I think he might last for a little while.
